Durga puja is not even a month away and I am sure you have already started on your Durga Puja preparation. For my friends in India, durga puja 2007, was a tremendous blast as usual. I haven't got an opportunity to get the flavor of the fun of durga puja in kolkata and surroundings, but pics sent by them after Durga Puja 2007, were really awesome. Some of the idols are really gigantic and the Puja there are really gorgeous.

Durga Puja 2007 revealed an opportunity for me to visit Houston Durga Bari. It was really a grand experience spending the whole day with them seeing the Durga Puja. I was really amazed to see how they created the ambiance that held the true spirit of Hinduism and every religious discourses to the fullest extent. Things are really tough to be sketched in words. Just be there and you can see the magic of a gorgeous Durga Puja at Houston.

Durga Puja Calendar 2008

Hey... it's time again to get carried away by the wave of fun. Yes, Durga puja is approaching fast and I am sure you guys have already started off with the Durga puja preparation. I got mails from my friend Writu, Dhruv and Shalini this weekend. They said they have already started cleaning their house. Dhruv disposed off his old couch and got the house painted. Well that's pretty expensive and not all people afford to paint the house each year. But decoration has always been one of the most significant part right before Durga Puja.

Maha Ashtami Durgapuja Orkut Scraps

Today is Maha Ashtami (the eighth day)! This is the most important day of Puja. And when it comes to Bengalis, the spirit of the day cannot be at its fullest extent without the touch of traditional food items and conventional recipes... especially Luchi, Aloor dum, Chholaar Dal and sweets. They are really great foodie. Me too! My mom is preparing another special recipe for today for us. I don't know what. She want to strike us with a great surprise, she said.

Maha Saptami Durgapuja Orkut Scraps

This weekend, one of my friends in Kolkata has sent me some of the photographs of last year's Durga Puja of Kolkata. Durga Puja celebration in Kolkata is insanely huge -- it was really beyond my imagination. I just wanted to know the top ranking Duraga Puja of Kolkata from her. She supplied me a list of 100 names of Puja places in Kolkata. According to her, some of the must see pujas of the list are Ekdalia Evergreen, Baghbazar Sarbojoneen, Maddox Square, Shimla Byayam Samity, Mudiali, Ahiritola Sarbojoneen, Muhammad Ali Park, College Square, Babubagan, Kasba Bose Pukur, Kumortuli Sarbojoneen and Badamtala.

How to Make Mishti Doi On Durga Puja Orkut Comments

Durga puja is celebrated with great pomp and show. Sweet is an inseparable part of the Durga Puja festival. Special sweets are usually available in the market during the festival. But the pleasure of seeing your loved ones enjoying the Mishti Doi (sweetened yogurt) that you've made at home is really different.Here's how to make yummy mishti doi for your friends and guests.

Ingredients:

• Buffalo Milk -- 2 1/4 ltrs
• Sugar – 500 gms.
• Yogurt – 25 gms.
• Earthen pot
• Deep Bowl of 1.5 kg.

Direction

• Add 300 gram sugar to the milk and boil it in medium heat for 40 minutes.
• Beat the milk constantly while boiling.
• When the milk has reduced to 45% and has become thick, put off the flame.
• Add the remaining 2oo grams of sugar in 50 ml of water and boil it until it turns into thick brown sugar syrup.
• Pour the sugar mixture (syrup) into the milk and heat it for another 20 minutes. Beat it constantly while heating.
• Pour the mixture into the earthen pot after it cools down and mix the yogurt.
• Stir it well until the yogurt mixes up thoroughly.
• Cover it and allow it to set for a day in warm place.
• Put it into the refrigerator after it gets thickened.
• Serve it chill.
